West End ward councillor to run London Marathon

West End ward councillor Jonathan Glanz is entering the final week of his training ahead of competing in the London Marathon that takes place next Sunday 22 April.

He is running to raise money for the charity The Connection at St Martin in the Fields.

The Connection is a homeless charity, that offers specialist services for up to 200 people every day seven days a week – including a day and night centre, outreach for rough sleepers, skills training and career advice, activity programmes and specialist support for complex needs. They offer advice, care and support in a welcoming and friendly environment. By encouraging each person to address the issues which caused their homelessness, they help the homeless gain the skills and confidence to make lasting changes in their lives.

Cllr Glanz, along with other local councillors has regularly attended the Soho Act of Remembrance service in St Anne’s gardens (also known as St Anne’s Churchyard) to mark the anniversary of the Soho bomb, and keeps a watchful eye over the three cherry trees that were planted in memory of Nick Moore, Andrea Dykes and John Light. Last year he noticed that the growth of one of the cherry trees was stunted because it was overshadowed nearby trees so he arranged for them to be lopped back so that the cherry tree would receive sufficient light. He also regularly attends meetings of the Soho LGBT Community Forum which meets at 56 Dean St.
