On the 5th June 14 year old Kardin Ulysse was beaten and blinded in one eye by classmates in an apparent anti-gay attack that took place in the cafeteria at Roy H. Mann Junior High School in Bergen Beach.

Two teenage boys from Brooklyn were charged on Friday 13th July following the hate crime attack. The boys aged 12 and 13 attacked Kardin, calling him a “F—–g f—-t”, a “p–f”, a “transvestite” and a “gay”.

Kardin apparently does not identify as gay according to his lawyer, but regardless of his sexuality, the manner in which he was attacked is being taken into account, hence it has been filed as a hate crime. His parents are now planning to pursue a $16 million negligence case against the school for failing to adequately supervise the cafeteria.
