Plans to focus on Disability Hate Crime in 2020

Hi everyone – 17-24-30 National Hate Crime Awareness Week is aiming to make 2020 the year of Disability Hate Crime Awareness.
We are planning to work closely with Inclusion London and other disabled people’s organisations to raise awareness throughout the year.
Some ideas;
  1. Family/Friends of a disabled victim of hate crime to light the national candle at St Paul’s Cathedral at the launch of the week.
  2. Fifty separate candle lighting invitation slips to feature 50 people affected by disability hate crime.
  3. Invite one organisation to speak about disability hate crime during the service – probably Inclusion London.
  4. Feature and promote at least one (if not more) disabled people’s charity, organisation or campaign in our monthly newsletter.
  5. Source and share more information about disability hate crime across our social media profiles.
  6. National piece of research – asking all councils and police service what they are doing to tackle disability hate crime, who they are working with and what access to resources they have.
Would welcome your feedback and ideas on how we can all work together to make this an amazing year raising awareness and tackling disability hate crime.
We have a volunteer called Jordan who is going to be our disability hate crime lead.
