Okay, the next International Day of Hope and Remembrance for those affected by Hate Crime (20th October) is less than two months away. Here at 17-24-30 we have been busy networking and planning for this years activities which will include:
A Special event (13th October) launching our first Hate Crime Awareness Week 13th-19th October which will lead us to the 4th London Vigil against Hate Crime which will take place in Trafalgar Square on the 20th October.
We are asking local authorities (Police, Council and others), local community organisations, Trade Unions and students throughout the UK to show their support by organising Hate Crime Awareness Events between the 13th to 19th October. Hopefully there will be a variety of events and activities to raise awareness of what hate crime is and people can work together locally to tackle it.
We’re also planning to get out to events including; Brighton Pride (1st Sept), Reading Pride (8th Sept), Soho Drag Race (16th Sept), Love Spirit Festival (22nd Sept), Big Gay 10k (30th Sept) to promote the 17-24-30 No to Hate Crime Campaign.
On the 7th October we are supporting “A Tribute to Jody” which will take place at the Two Brewers, marking the 7th anniversary of the death of Jody Drobrowski who was beaten to death on Clapham Common (14th October 2005). We want to help raise £1000 for a memorial bench in his name.
The 20th October will be a very busy day as we start by supporting the TUC National Demonstration against Austerity – raising our concerns about the impact of the cuts on front line services aimed at supporting those who have been affected by hate crime (showing our support for organisations like GALOP and the London Lesbian & Gay Helpline that have had their funding cut), we want to see more resources provided to those tackling hate crime in our communities.
Later we will be participating in the Big Gay Lifestyle Show 2012 and then over to Trafalgar Square to host the 4th London Vigil against Hate Crime whilst other Solidarity vigils of Hope and Remembrance are being organised around the UK and abroad.
We want you to get involved by clicking on the links below and signing up to the events we have listed.
We are hosting 17-24-30 Public Meeting (Tuesday 25th Sept) if you want to join us and get involved. For more information e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
